Denise Garcia is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and holds a Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.). Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to understanding the lasting effects of trauma and helping individuals heal from experiences that continue to impact their daily lives.

During her Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Denise specialized in Trauma Etiology, studying how traumatic experiences affect the brain, nervous system, relationships, and emotional well-being. She later earned her Doctorate in Psychology, where her research continued to focus on trauma-responsive approaches and creating environments that foster healing and resilience.

Prior to entering private practice, Denise spent over seven years working in community mental health organizations. Community mental health organizations provide accessible mental health services to individuals and families who may otherwise face barriers to care due to financial hardship, trauma, disability, cultural or language differences, or limited access to healthcare. Throughout her work, Denise provided therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds, including survivors of abuse, victims of crime, underserved communities, individuals experiencing severe mental health concerns, and families involved with schools, social services, and other community agencies.

One of the greatest benefits of Denise's work in community mental health was receiving extensive specialized training from nationally recognized experts in trauma treatment. She attended leading conferences throughout Southern California focused on trauma-informed care, the neuroscience of trauma, attachment, resilience, and evidence-based interventions. These experiences, combined with years of clinical work, gave her a deep understanding of how trauma impacts the brain, body, and relationships—and, more importantly, how healing is possible.

Denise practices through a trauma-informed lens, meaning she recognizes that many emotional, behavioral, and relational struggles are often rooted in past experiences rather than personal weakness or failure. Trauma-informed therapy emphasizes creating emotional safety, understanding each person's unique story, recognizing how trauma influences thoughts, emotions, and the nervous system, and helping clients develop lasting healing instead of simply managing symptoms.

In addition to her work with clients, Denise serves as a Clinical Supervisor, mentoring and supporting associate therapists as they develop their clinical skills. She is passionate about helping the next generation of therapists provide ethical, compassionate, and trauma-informed care. Her experience supervising clinicians further reflects her commitment to maintaining high standards of clinical excellence and ensuring clients receive thoughtful, evidence-based treatment.

Denise is EMDR trained and integrates Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help clients process difficult experiences, reduce emotional distress, and build resilience. She specializes in working with individuals experiencing trauma, PTSD, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and other forms of emotional distress.

As a bilingual therapist, Denise is passionate about providing culturally responsive care where clients feel understood, respected, and empowered throughout the healing process. She believes therapy should be a collaborative experience that honors each client's strengths while creating space for meaningful growth, healing, and lasting change.

  • Denise's extensive background in trauma-informed care allows her to help clients understand how difficult life experiences impact the brain, nervous system, relationships, and emotional well-being. She creates a safe, collaborative environment where healing is focused not only on reducing symptoms, but also on building resilience and lasting change.

  • Her seven years of experience in community mental health provided the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds, including underserved communities, survivors of trauma, victims of crime, and individuals navigating significant mental health challenges. These experiences shaped her compassionate, culturally responsive approach to therapy and reinforced her belief that every person deserves access to quality mental health care.

  • As an EMDR-trained therapist, Denise integrates evidence-based trauma treatment with a personalized, trauma-informed approach, helping clients process painful experiences, strengthen emotional resilience, and move toward meaningful healing and growth.

  • As a clinical supervisor, Denise is passionate about mentoring associate therapists and helping them build confidence, clinical competence, and ethical decision-making. She is committed to developing thoughtful, trauma-informed clinicians who provide compassionate, high-quality care while continuing to grow professionally throughout their careers.

“I enjoy helping people understand how their life experiences have shaped who they are, so they can move beyond survival and begin living with greater confidence, connection, and hope."
